Swordfish 2012, 2-4 november

Postby Axel Pettersson » Thu May 10, 2012 4:38 am

Swordfish 2012 will take place during November 2-4 in Gothenburg, Sweden. As usual you can arrive on the day before (Thursday the 1st).

Swordfish is hosted by Gotehnburg Historical Fencing School (GHFS) and the Swedish HEMA Federation (SvHEMAF)

This year we will also provide the possibility to depart on Monday the day after the event, in order to make it easier for you to plan your trip.

Swordfish hosts some of the best HEMA instructors and researchers who provide top notch workshops and lectures for Swordfish participants. Swordfish is open for interested people with or without HEMA background, regardless of skill level previous background.

Swordfish also hosts some of the most prestigious HEMA tournaments, last year the final fights were aired live with commentary, this is something that will be repeated this year. You can watch last years live cast here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD_iG65DraI&feature=related

More info (website etc) to follow.

We need more people from this part of the world at swordfish so we're not as lonely!

Axel - Thanks for working out being able to stay Sunday night. That should make travel a LOT easier.

I'm really hoping to make it out to Swordfish in 2013. From everything I know, Swordfish is an excellent event. This year is WWOC in Germany for me though. Otherwise I'd be there.

Ben - it usually isn't a problem if someone needs (or just wants) to stay a couple of extra days before or after the event.. quite a few in GHFS are willing to host couchsurfers :-) which includes me, by the way. I have plenty of room.

awesome! looking forward to watching it live again!

oh just thought I'd mention it while I'm here: Is there somewhere where I can download the full video? Or maybe download it in smaller parts? I've tried downloading the one from youtube, and every single time I download it, the file is corrupted and messes up about halfway through watching it.

Hi Joey, glad to hear you enjoyed the live cast last year!

As it is right now i don't think there is a place to download it from, but I will ask our tech guy if he can get it up on a torrent.

Regards,
Axel

Last year you had to bring your own weapon for rapier tournament. Are there any specific requirements regarding a rapier used in competition in 2012 (dimensions, weight, flexibility)?

Hi, this year we will again ask you to bring your own rapier & dagger, as of right now we dont have any special requirements for the rapier, though hanwei weapons are discouraged and hanwei parrying daggers are not allowed at all (they break too easily).

I would recomend using a rapier from Darkwood as we know they work, if you are using another one please send me a link to the maker and some stats and we will look into it. Of course, the weapon should be free of buurs, large nicks and cracks.

Regards,
Axel

So glad I have my ticket already, even stopping in Scotland for two days on the way back. Don't worry Jean I'm not going to let those Eurotrash mess with my Hygiene standards.

Axel any ETA on a website yet, I have some people from militarygamers.com coming with me, one of which wants to learn as much as he can while there so he can start a club up in Wisconsin.
