Free flail translations?

Postby Jason Taylor » Wed Oct 26, 2011 10:33 am

I've been working with the PHM flail material a bit recently, and I know there are translations out there that people are working from. I know there's one in the Polearms of PHM book, which I don't have and can't really afford right now. Is there a free translation somewhere that I can start working from the primary source material with? I have the German version on the Wiktenauer, but my Old German isn't quite good enough to knock out my own. When there's an existing translation, I can use the original as a backup and to check the author's interpretation, but going from scratch is a bit tough.

Any suggestions?

The Flail material is actually in Masters of Medieval and Renaissance Martial Arts (not the polearms book), if you can get access to that.

Oh, okay. Well, I don't have access to that one at this moment, either....moving into my new suck-free condo rental is kind of absorbing all of my money.

That's about it for English translation of Flail (or Peasant Staff). :-/

You should either buy that PH Mair book by D.Knight & B.Hunt from Paladin Press or have you local county library obtain it for you via ILL.

That book it really worth owning, those two fellows really did a fine job of it. :)

Yeah, I'd love to have it. I like polearms. Just no funding--thought the ILL thing is a good idea. Maybe I can get my university library to get it on loan from somewheres....they'll do a lot for faculty involved in research.
