As I said elsewhere, this is an excellent article.

Thank you so much! These guys are fun studying! The same with Meyer, Graf and a couple of other people. They led so intense lives, having achieved so much and educated themselves, both intellectually and physicall, to a degree few of us achieve today I think. Agrippa is even said to have spoken eight languages fluently... I know a guy who speaks six very well, but that is rare.

Here's a pretty extensive follow up article entitled "The Rose and the Pentagram".

Nice work Roger. Its about time someone attempted to overlay this kind of information onto the sources. This type of alchemical and rosicrucian information was critical to our ancestors' understanding of fighting.

I've studied the subject for over ten years now, and its been very rewarding for revealing hidden meanings. Meanings of visual devices which, to modern people are obscure or even quite random are revealed to be highly selected and designed to communicate incommunicatable information.

Thank you guys! It is at least in part a bit speculative, but most I hope is well founded. It is difficult to limit the scope though, since there are so many threads that really need following to the end, but space and the patience of the readers limits things somewhat. It is a bit unsatisfying though, since I need to cut quite a few topics short. I am talking about working more on the topic with a friend though.

Then again, the idea was to present a little glimpse of the idea worlds of mysticism and religion surrounding the fencers and their guilds in the Renaissance and how it might tie to the Rose. It is a bit of a peculiar technique as I think it was relatively "new" in that it doesn't seem to be described before Paurnfeindt in 1516. Meyer of course takes it the farthest, applying it to several weapons.

Oh and James! I would love to see you share what you have found! Everyone is welcome to publish their thoughts on HROARR so you are most welcome too. :)

That is some cool stuff - please keep doing your good work. :)

I have some ideas about the Wallerstein image - may reveal such in future. :?:

Very cool, Roger. Having read Agrippa years and years ago for a paper on Renaissance Neoplatonism, when I learned about the fencing master Agrippa, I always thought it would be fun if there was a connection. Which there isn't, literally, but perhaps spiritually...er, so to speak... as your article shows here. ;)
