Dierk Hagedorn says that they'll be posting the second volume soon. Enjoy.

Note also that with the release of the first volume of the Dresden, all three versions of PHM's treatises on longsword, dussack, short staff, long staff, halberd, peasant weapons, and dagger are available for comparative analysis.

never before in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to one guy who got hanged for it :)

I love Mair, I swear i would be all over this if not for my Meyer madness, the images are so beautiful i want to put them up all over my house but the wife won't let me :)

Wooo Hoooo!!!!! Its about time! I've gotten so used to looking at B & W versions of this manual that the color version looks incredible! :) After I finish with Sutor, I really need to get my translation of Mair's Longsword buffed up and on-line at the MFFG site!

If we ever found a manual with Meyer's level of description and Mair's attention to detail... I think it would change the community forever.

I swear, once I finish with Joerg Wilhalm, Hans Talhoffer, and Codex Wallerstein, I'm going to do some work on Paulus Hector Mair.

Yes! I also find it so sad to think that at one time Mair had compiled an enormous library of KDF sources in an attempt to protect them and ensure that his beloved tradition of Western Martial Arts did not die out, only to have them sold off at an auction after his execution to recoup some of the lost funds he had embezzled from the Augsburg treasury.

I truly hope this recent release of the Dresden scans will generate lots of interest and excitement in the HEMA community. I personally think that PHM has been ignored by many practitioners for far too long. Hopefully he will receive more attention and respect because of this.

It's not disrespect so much as lack of availability. I can't read Medieval church Latin or Middle High German, so until Forgeng gets off his ass and publishes his translation, Mair remains nothing but a bunch of pretty pictures.
