What are our ages?

Postby Tracy Mellow » Wed May 02, 2012 5:42 am

I would like to get an idea of the ranges of ages within HEMA. Please also indicate if you only train or if you also are involved in competitions.

I'll start:

I'm 38 and have not competed in any HEMA sanctioned events yet, but do regularly compete in armored tournaments in California within a small group of combatants. Will start showing up to HEMA events soon.

In the Academy of Historical Arts we have practitioners aged between 12 and 67. Most just train but a handful of the members in the 18-30 age bracket like to compete in HEMA tournaments.

Personally I am 24 and compete whenever I can, as well as training several days a week.

34, been to a tournament, our group, the Phoenix Society trains and spars, the High School group I run does the same.

Members of the Phoenix Society are 18-30's.

The High School kids are 14-18.

33.

Started learning swordwork some 12 years back.

With my SCA commitments, and general lack of funds, I cannot make HEMA Tourneys being I would have to fly to almost all of them.

Self and wife both aged 44 and getting slower. Try to remain fit with weights and good diet.

Have not been able to attend tournaments due to excessive cost. Yet, there's virtually no one about to train with in both Idaho nor Kent, and it seems the most people I meet have an uhealthy contempt for history and activities such as HEMA.

I'll be 72 at the end of this month (May 2012). I live on Florida's west coast and try to get to training on the east coast every Sunday. I have only competed at the Dixie Kreigs.
