Clearly I've only skimmed over CW at this point.

But now I understand what you mean about other sources.

I still think it is one of the most tragic stories of all time: Paulus Hector Mair spends a fortune gathering martial arts manuscripts from the far reaches of Europe to keep them safe and preserve a dying tradition. Do you think it's possible that someone could actually do a search for records of the auction to look for not only who bought the various manuscripts but also a description of what was sold? Matt Galas seems to have been able to find all kinds of records related to legal issues in Belgium and Northern France.

Digging through my email on an unrelated search, I found a post to the ARMA E-list from the formidable Brian Hunt which offers the following list of manuscripts known to have been owned by Mair. It was part of a longer post discussing the possibility that Mair owned Goliath.

P.S. here is a list of the books that I am aware of that Mair owned.

- Jörg Wilhalm's manuscript, Codex I.6.2.2 (hk 10)
- Wilhalm's sketchbook (HK 8)
- the notes of fencing master Antonius Rast
- the Codex Wallerstein, Cod. I.6.4.2
- Gregor Erhart's manuscript, Cod. I.5.4.4
- Jörg Wilhalm's first copy made from his sketchbook, Cod. I.6.2.3
- a copy of the Königsegg-Talhoffer manuscript, Codex I.6.2.1
- a copy of Ringeck, Codex I.6.2.5

In order:

• The 622 I mentioned above; Mair bound together Wilhalm's Bloszfechten and Sollinger's hand-written redaction of Pauernfeindt's printed book.
• HK 8 is the first draft of Codex I.6.2.3 (see below); I've never seen this manuscript myself.
• Rast has been discussed above.
• Wallerstein is well=known; Mair bound together three manuscripts, two of which may have been related, one clearly not.
• The manual by Erhart was lost, last I heard.
• The Codex I.6.2.3 covers Wilhalm's Kampffechten and Roszfechten, minus the text (another of his books, the Codex I.6.4.5, has the same material again plus captions).
• The Codex I.6.2.1 I thought dated to the 1560s, so I'm surprised to see it on this list. Regardless, the Königsegg was the finished draft of the earlier Ambraser Codex, written for Leutold von Königsegg, his patron of the time.
• And the Codex I.6.2.5, which I also mentioned above, and is Mair's compilation of several books, including a copy of Ringeck that is expanded by Hans Medel, and several illustrations of nude fighters by one Martin Van Heemskerck.

Oops, mistake in there. The HK 8 is the same thing as the Codex I.6.4.5: Wilhalm's armored longsword and horse fighting, uncaptioned. The Codex I.6.2.3 is the captioned version.
