Postby Jay Vail » Sat Jul 09, 2011 11:30 am

Announcing Dixie Krieg 2011!

Sponsored by the Meyer Freifechter Guild and the HEMA Alliance.

This event – featuring a prize play and a Belgian rules longsword tournament – will be held Oct. 8-9, 2011, in Tallahassee, Florida. There will be an additional day in a local park for study group meetings and private instruction.

Come for the camaraderie, the sparring opportunities, and the informative classes on overlooked aspects of longsword sparring, Meyer’s dagger vs. dagger combat, and adapting HEMA for modern self defense.

Details and sign up are available at:

http://freifechter.com/events/2011/

We hope to see you there at what should be our best regional HEMA event yet.

Just a quick note.

When I was booking a room for us the other day, it looks like most of the hotels with rooms under $100 are almost all booked up already.

I ended up finding a place at the Best Western for $79 per night.

If you haven't booked your rooms yet, might need to get on it pretty quick.

So what I've hoped wouldn't, did. I'm most likely going to be overseas until December. At least I get to go on a one day vacation to Dubai in the interim.

One day?! Dubai does sound like a pretty crazy place to check out, I'd be interested in hearing about it when you get back.

I'm all set for Dixie Krieg... got my gear, a hotel a few miles from the event and I've had a year to get trained up.

I am very excited about this event. It will be my first event outside of the different local groups, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to test what I've learned in the last 2 years against competent and seasoned fighters. I want to make sure I have everything I need. Is there a recommended to-bring gear list? Also, I found a couple different versions of write ups of the Belgian rules for longsword tournaments. Which rules are you using?

Also, if I end up getting killed with an aluminum baseball bat, my wife has the video saved to use as evidence.

I will be there, and so will two of our students, and Mike, and possibly Ben if he could just get back in the country on time.... so Krieg School will be there in force. :)

We'll have 6 from the Ordo showing up. This will be the first big HEMA event for my guys, so I'm really looking forward to it.

We'll be getting into town Friday afternoon, so if anybody plans to be there early hit me up.

I'm back in the country just in time for Dixie Krieg. :D We'll have a stronger showing from Tampa this year with 5-7 attending.
