Carlos, I clearly understand your point of view and I don't know if we will ever completly agree, maybe we should settle this with a swordfight  :D
But you certainly got me thinking about the direction that I should be going. I know now that I can use some work on controlling the central line of attack and to learn to work better 'am schwert', a part of the art that I seem to forget when I'm sparring.
Anyway, thanx for your insight and it is always nice to learn a different approach/point of view, after all that is what makes swordfighting so interesting.
Courage: not the absence of fear or despair, but the strength to conquer them.

Here is a much better video for consideration.

This one takes a lot of the guesswork out out of the discussion :)

right there with ya Jesse.

I actually think that these video's and this particular meeting of these two different styles, is one of the more important things to have happened in HEMA recently.
Its great to see two great fencers have to adapt to fighting different styles, and to see what comes of it.

In the Carlos vs Jan Videos I see lots from Carlos that I am not used to seeing. like more close guards, VT at the shoulder and such. Not like I have never seen that from Carlos but it is more rare.
And Jan is playing a much more cautious game then I have seen in previous videos as well.

I know that these aren't Tournament matches and so therefore everyone is there for fun, but its great to see anyway

I think the fencing outside of tournaments is the real fencing. There are no rules, no judges, just two people, two swords, and the truth.
